In Pokémon, competitive singles uses different tiers to separate Pokémon and put them against others of a similar power level. We have translated this concept into Splatoon by separating each and every weapon into 3 main tiers, OU (Over Used), UU (Under Used) and NU (Never Used), with OU being comprised of the most commonly used weapons. This tournament will focus on the UU tier, which by consequence will also allow weapons in the NU tier to be selected. We have simplified things by diving weapons into 2 categories: banned and allowed, so stuff like both Splash-o-matics, Ballpoint and .96 Deco is banned, but both Jr.'s, Hydra and regular .96 Gal are all allowed, among many others!
